Ice Open Network Suffers Insider Data Breach, Assures No Fund Theft
Ice Open Network (ION) disclosed a security breach involving its identity database server, compromised by former partners of a third-party service provider. The incident exposed identity keys, public keys, email addresses, and phone numbers used for two-factor authentication—but the company confirms no financial data, private keys, or wallets were accessed.
The breach originated from four individuals affiliated with an external vendor handling operational tasks, including PR and design. ION emphasized the perpetrators had no direct ties to its core team. Legal actions are underway against the culprits, with migration plans set for Online+ to mitigate risks, potentially causing temporary service disruptions.
Market observers note the breach highlights persistent vulnerabilities in crypto infrastructure, though ION's swift containment of financial exposure may bolster confidence. The network's transparency contrasts with opaque responses typical of past exchange hacks.
